Guy Fawkes – Bon Fire Night

5th Nov, 2008 |

Guy Fawkes was a member of a Roman Catholic group who planned to blow up parliament to dissolve the regime. As a result we celebrate the 5th November as Bon Fire Night. Many Places through huge firework displays and Theme Parks often have special nights.

Children often dress up a “guy” and will ask for a penny for the guy. It is traditional to give them some money.

Much has been done to celebrate this day including having verses written. The most popular perhaps being:-

“Remember, remember the fifth of November,
The gunpowder, treason and plot,
I see no reason
Why gunpowder treason
Should ever be forgot.”

Spamalot – Monty Pyton

15th Oct, 2008 |

If you are a Monty Pyton fan then you should go to watch Spamalot. Spamalot is lovingly ripped off from the classic film comedy Monty Pyton and the Holy Grail and is a new musical directed by Mike Nichols. And honestly, it has nothing to do with Spam!!

It is side grippingly funny, that even when I went (and was not in a particularly good mood) left with my sides aching from the silliness! This was a year ago and I still smile when I think about it. I would happily watch again.

Phantom of the Opera

9th Oct, 2008 |

The Phantom of the Opera is one of the best Musicals ever. If you have not seen it, then you must make a point of going. If you only ever watch one show on Broadway / in the West End, then it really should be The Phantom of the Opera.

It is known for being the World’s most haunting Love Story. (Don’t take your girlfriend there if you don’t want her to fill up with wedding ideas – Just Kidding!)

It is an Andrew Lloyd Webber production which opened today 23 years ago and is still going strong, which goes to show just how good it is. It is currently playing at Her Majesty’s Theatre, Haymarket, London – SW1Y 4QL.

It won’t be on forever, so book your tickets now!

Car Rental – National

15th Sep, 2008 |

Although transport around London is quite reasonable, sometimes is pays to rent a car. So far I have been quite pleased using National. You can pick up a car from Heathrow airport which means it is very conveniently located or from most other airports too.

You can also save money by booking online. Just click on the link for great online savings.

The only thing I will advise you is that it is often more expensive if you collect from one airport and leave the car at another. Mind you it can be convenient as is most likely still cheaper than a taxi!!

Yell

1st Sep, 2008 |

Just thought that I would mention Yell as being a good place to help you look up places of interest in any area you may be in, in the UK, Heathrow included!

You can search by name, area or what you are after eg car rental!

15th Aug, 2008 |

Joseph and his amazing technicolour dream coat is showing in London West End. Joseph is an Andrew Lloyd Webber musical and is now staring Lee winner of the role for Joseph on BBC.

Personally I think Lee is the next best thing to Jason Donovan but as I cannot have Donovan, then Lee is a must!
